an orphan's bright star card fundraiser

For anyone looking for Ukrainian Christmas items… This blog is for you.

There is a new charity called Orphan’s Bright Star. They are working with 5 Ukrainian orphanages;

  • Chinadievo children’s home
  • Dnepropetrovsk baby orphanage
  • Kremenchuk baby orphanage
  • Svalyava baby orphanage
  • Zhitomir baby orphanage
  • Zhitomir internat

Right now they are selling some beautiful cards for Christmas. The art work is by Ukrainian orphans. There isn’t any writing in the cards, so they don’t have to be used for Christmas.

The picture above is from my cards. They are beautiful…

I have actually did this in years past for my mother. She believes in social justice and liked the idea of a donation in her name. And she is really hard to buy for. I believe that a family member gifted an African family a cow one year for her.

I found this interesting blog taking about gifting a goat.

I love Yammi Wear. I bought Natasha a Ukrainian fleece blanket from them. For the first year, she carried it around. And even now at 9.5 years of age it is her favorite blanket.

Now they sell fleece blankets with 2 sides; American flag and Ukrainian flag.

The Adoption Shop lists things by country. Here is their Ukrainian list. You can buy books and clothing.

I really liked the Ukrainian adoption memoir called Rainbows from Heaven. As I mentioned on a prior blog it is told from the adopted children’s point of view. This makes the book very unique. Most memoirs are told from the adults/parents point of view.

buyukraine.org has some very unique gifts. They have a monthly educational magazine for children in Ukrainian. Some great art pieces. I am thinking about buying a book titled; One Woman, Five Lives, Five Countries by Eugenia Dallas (in English)

[Their] online store, sponsored by the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, features a selection of unique products for specialized needs. Sale proceeds go to support the Foundation’s activities that focus on facilitating democratic institutions, a free market, and human rights.
